Nexenta Partners with Silicon Valley Education Foundation to Support Cloud-based Technology Innovation for K-12 Education at 12th Annual Pioneers and Purpose Event

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Nov. 7, 2016— Nexenta (@Nexenta), the global leader in Open Source-driven Software-Defined Storage (OpenSDS), today announced its participation and sponsorship in Silicon Valley Education Foundation’s (SVEF) 12th annual Pioneers & Purpose Event.

Pioneers & Purpose brings together the best and brightest of Silicon Valley in celebration of public education. Since 2005, Pioneers & Purpose has been the signature event of the Silicon Valley Education Foundation. Honoring education leaders in the region, Pioneers & Purpose has raised over $9 million for STEM—science, technology, engineering and math—education, making a tremendous impact for public school children and teachers across Silicon Valley.

This year’s event will honor Diane Greene, Senior Vice President, Google Inc., as the 2016 Pioneer Business Leader for her outstanding accomplishments in the worlds of business and philanthropy. Diane was a founder and the CEO of VMware for ten years, taking the company public and to a $2 billion run-rate. In addition to her position at Google, she currently serves on the board of directors at Intuit, Alphabet, Khan Academy and MIT, and angel invests in various startups. Her true passion lies in helping others, and has donated millions of her earnings to various charities over the years.

“At Nexenta, we recognize the importance education plays in the lives of young people, and the ways in which it enables success and the further advancement of Silicon Valley, and the technology industry as a whole,” said Tarkan Maner, CEO and Chairman at Nexenta and SVEF board member. “Nexenta remains a proud sponsor of the SVEF and their continued efforts to fortify STEM curriculum and public education for the region and the state of California. We are excited to attend this event once again this year, in celebration of education and technology.”

The Silicon Valley Education Foundation is the leading advocate for public education in Silicon Valley, California’s sixth largest school system with over 370,000 students and 18,000 teachers. SVEF focuses on the critical need for improvements in STEM education by leveraging resources and partnerships so all students can realize their full potential. Through advocacy, direct service programs, and resources for innovation, SVEF works to transform Silicon Valley into a model for enhancing public education. SVEF’s goal is to make Silicon Valley the number one region in California for students graduating from high school academically prepared for post-secondary success.
