Santa Clara, Calif.--October 28, 2015— Nexenta (@Nexenta) the global leader in Open Source-driven Software-Defined Storage (OpenSDS), today announced the company’s participation and sponsorship in Silicon Valley Education Foundation’s (SVEF) 11th annual Pioneers & Purpose Event.
Pioneers & Purpose brings together the best and brightest of Silicon Valley in celebration of public education. Since 2005, Pioneers & Purpose has been the signature event of the Silicon Valley Education Foundation. Honoring education leaders in the region, Pioneers & Purpose has raised over $8 million for STEM—science, technology, engineering and math—education, making a tremendous impact for public school children and teachers across Silicon Valley.
This year’s event will honor John Doerr, Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, as the 2015 Pioneer Business Leader for his outstanding accomplishments in the worlds of business and philanthropy. John’s passion is helping entrepreneurs create the “Next Big Thing” in mobile and social networks, greentech innovation, and education and economic development. Ventures sponsored by John have created more than 200,000 new jobs. John serves on the boards of Amyris, Google, and Zynga, as well as several private technology ventures.
“Education provides the platform for success and is crucial to the future of Silicon Valley and the advancement of the technology industry,” said Tarkan Maner, CEO and Chairman at Nexenta and SVEF board member. “Nexenta is a proud sponsor of the SVEF’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public education and STEM curriculum. We look forward to attending this event again this year in celebration of education.”
The Silicon Valley Education Foundation is the leading advocate for public education in Silicon Valley, California’s sixth largest school system with over 270,000 students and 13,000 teachers. SVEF’s goal is to make Silicon Valley the number one region in California for all students graduating from high school academically prepared for post-secondary success. Through advocacy, programs, and resources for innovation, SVEF will transform Silicon Valley into a model for enhancing public education. Leveraging partnerships and resources for public education, SVEF focuses on the critical need for improvements in STEM education so that all students can reach their full potential.
