SANTA CLARA, Calif. — October 13, 2015 — Nexenta® (@Nexenta), the global leader in Open Source-driven Software-Defined Storage (OpenSDS™), today announced that it is a title sponsor of the Silicon Valley Regional U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTOSV) Opening Celebration, which is being hosted by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. Nexenta’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and General Counsel, Mavis Yee, will speak at the opening, to be held in San Jose on Oct. 15th.
“Silicon Valley is universally acknowledged as setting the standard of tech innovation, and is regularly looked to as a model to emulate by others around the globe,” Yee said. “While the U.S. patent office has a long and venerable history of protecting America’s inventors and their inventions, the pace of innovation is constantly speeding up, and this continually puts pressure on the patent approval process to respond accordingly. A local patent and trademark office helps streamline this process to the benefit of the entire Bay Area community of inventors and innovators.”
In addition to Yee and fellow speakers Chuck Reed, former mayor of San Jose; a representative from Schwegman, Lundberg & Woessner; the current Mayor of San Jose Sam Liccardo; and USPTO Directors John Cabeca and Michelle Lee, the event will feature an Innovation Forum with exhibits from local innovators, including Nexenta and its OpenSDS product portfolio. Also on display will be advances in bio-tech spectroscopy, computing technology and crowd sourcing, plus the patents behind these innovations. Attendees will also witness a demonstration of new hover technology that powers an up-and-coming hover board. A fireside chat--moderated by Carl Guardino, president and CEO of the Leadership Group--will feature panelists USPTO’s Lee; U.S. Rep Zoe Lofgren; Ian Wright, CEO of Wrightspeed and Co-Founder of Tesla Motors; and the Founder and CEO of Blaze Mobile, Michelle Fisher.
Nexenta is one of two title sponsors of the USPTOSV celebratory opening, which marks the fruition of seven years of advocacy by the City of San Jose in partnership with the Leadership Group, Nexenta and others in the business and intellectual property communities.
“After nearly eight years of effort, the Leadership Group and its nearly 400-member companies is thrilled to bring together Silicon Valley inventors and leaders to welcome this new office which will be a significant help to the region’s innovation economy,” said Guardino. “The opening of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Silicon Valley is a landmark event and couldn’t take place without support from local technology leaders like Nexenta.”
“This important milestone spearheaded by the Leadership Group represents a big win for Silicon Valley because it enables protections that are sure to foster the creativity and innovation of technologists well into the future,” said Nexenta’s Chairman and CEO Tarkan Maner, who is a Leadership Group board member. “We invite our colleagues in the tech community to join in this momentous celebration.”
