NexentaVSA for VMware View is a pre-defined, out-of-the-box solution for enterprises looking to accelerate the process of identifying, evaluating, selecting and deploying VDI solutions.
This certification embodies the commitment of Nexenta Systems to make VDI deployments simple and straightforward, while lowering total cost of ownership. — Evan Powell
CEO, Nexenta Systems
NexentaVSA for VMware View is purpose built to simplify the deployment and management of storage for VDI installations by integrating with VMware vSphere®, VMware vCenter™ Server, and NexentaStor virtual storage. The solution provides real-time analytics to troubleshoot, measure and monitor the deployment. Customers are also empowered to optimize the process of sizing, configuring and scaling their storage infrastructure for VDI.
VMware’s Rapid Desktop Program was created to help VMware partners create solutions that facilitate the rapid deployment of VDI desktops on a proven and certified configuration, with pre-installed and pre-configured software.
With the surge of big data in the enterprise, storage of that data is a critical aspect of a successful VDI deployment, which enables customers to implement a modern end-user computing architecture that improves desktop administration and management for the new era of IT. We are pleased to be working with Nexenta as a premier partner in the VMware View™ Rapid Desktop Program as they continue to bring VDI storage services to the enterprise.

TerraTel Saves Two Thirds of its Storage Budget with Nexenta’s Enterprise OpenStorage Solution
TerraTel Saves Two Thirds of its Storage Budget with Nexenta’s Enterprise OpenStorage Solution
London, UK — 24 April, 2012 — Nexenta® Systems, the world’s leading provider of OpenStorage solutions for the enterprise, today announced that Web hosting provider, TerraTel, has chosen two NexentaStor SAN solutions to underpin its entire virtual infrastructure. This has led to the Swedish company saving two-thirds of its storage costs.
Established in 1994, TerraTel provides high quality Web hosting, email solutions, and backup services to hundreds of customers across Sweden, Scandinavia, and Europe. For TerraTel, managing and protecting its clients’ mission critical data is serious business. An integral part is ensuring guaranteed uptime, superior performance, and data protection.
After moving to a VMware infrastructure, it became apparent that the company’s existing storage infrastructure, which included a number of different SAN solutions, was unable to cope. The company required a consolidated, reliable enterprise storage solution to underpin its virtual environment but at the most competitive price.
After carefully evaluating several solutions, with the help of channel partner Layer 8, TerraTel selected NexentaStor. Mattias Palsson, CTO, TerraTel, explains: “NexentaStor offers great performance and is incredibly flexible. The biggest benefit for TerraTel is that we can implement enterprise class storage for a fraction of the cost of a legacy system. With Nexenta, we no longer have to choose between features or performance, we can effectively provide both and satisfy our clients’ needs when provisioning new virtual servers.”
NexentaStor, which is exclusively used for TerraTel’s VMware infrastructure, is built on enterprise hardware from Cisco, creating two SANs. Each uses 2U rack servers with 16 disks to create a combined total raw capacity of 12TB. Features include hybrid storage pooling, unlimited snapshots, deduplication, and thin provisioning.
Palsson concludes: “We estimate that by buying two Nexenta solutions, we have spent less than one third of the investment we could have made with one Oracle SAN unit. This cost saving provides TerraTel with additional capital, which can be used for other IT resources to ensure we are meeting all our service level agreements.”
Evan Powell, CEO of Nexenta. ''TerraTel’s use of NexentaStor to manage its virtual environment shows that OpenStorage is a viable alternative to traditional legacy storage companies. TerraTel’s hosting business needs enterprise storage that can support and grow with it. No other approach to storage can match the scale and flexibility of the commercially supported OpenStorage-based NexentaStor. We look forward to a long relationship with TerraTel.”

Nexenta Systems Goes Big on OpenStack
Leader in OpenStorage Provides Backup/Restore to OpenStack, others; Launches Technology Preview of Swift Object Storage
OpenStack Design Summit & Conference, San Francisco, CA — April 16, 2012 — Nexenta® Systems, the world leader in OpenStorage solutions, today made four significant announcements at the OpenStack Conference, at which it is attending and presenting. These announcements include:
- Nexenta has increased its contributions to OpenStack to support openness in cloud management.
- The company today released NexentaStor Cloud Archive Plug-in, which delivers seamless backup and restore capabilities for Nexenta customers to and from the most popular cloud storage providers, including OpenStack-based clouds.
- Nexenta announced a technology preview of storage-as-a-service software that demonstrates the first integration of ZFS-based storage and object storage. It is available at cloudstorage.nexenta.com.
- Finally, the company has delivered to the OpenStack community additions to the Swift interfaces, making them even more compatible with Amazon’s S3.
“We are committed to OpenStack and its community, and to open approaches to cloud computing more generally,” said Nexenta CEO Evan Powell. “The Nexenta Cloud Archive Plug-in, along with and our contributions to the Nova Project, and with our technology trial of Object Storage for OpenStack’s Project Swift (at cloudstorage.nexenta.com), are part of our overall strategy of producing our ZFS-based storage software to improve storage for the cloud and cloud storage services.”
Nexenta has contributed substantially to, and invested in, the OpenStack Community, as evidenced by the NexentaStor volume driver for OpenStack, which provides the best file system support for users of Project Nova, the OpenStack virtual server management effort. For more information on Nexenta’s OpenStack work, see www.nexenta.com/openstack.
With the Nexenta Cloud Archive Plug-in, the thousands of organizations using NexentaStor-powered storage can move to a hybrid cloud architecture for storage with ease, relying on the industry’s leading OpenStorage solution for on-premise primary storage, along with proven cloud providers for backup, restore, and business continuity. First and foremost, this plug-in allows for backup and restore to any cloud-based service. Cloud storage services from Amazon, Google, Rackspace, and others can be used. One unique feature is that data archived to any of these clouds can be retrieved to any NexentaStor deployment, not just to the deployment that initially wrote the data to the cloud. The Cloud Archive Plug-in is available today at www.nexenta.com/store for $899, for a limited time.
Nexenta has long been a favored option for OpenStack storage under Project Nova. Nexenta has participated in a technology trial of an Object Storage Service based on OpenStack’s Project Swift. This trial, which is running on the award-winning NexentaStor product, can be seen at cloudstorage.nexenta.com. Visitors can request credentials and try out the service for a limited time. The trial will be available through mid-May 2012.

Nexenta Named to CRN's 2012 5-Star Partner Programs Guide
Nexenta Named to CRN’s 2012 5-Star Partner Programs Guide
Prestigious Honor Highlights Nexenta’s Robust Partner Program
and Recent Channel Momentum
Santa Clara, California — March 26, 2012 — Nexenta Systems, the world leader in OpenStorage solutions, today announced it has been named to CRN’s 2012 Partner Program Guide and was awarded the highest possible rating of a CRN 5-Star Partner. The 2012 Partner Program Guide and CRN 5-Star Rating is the definitive listing of manufacturers and software publishers that service solution providers or provide products to the IT Channel. Nexenta works with more than 250 resale and technology partners, including industry leaders Dell Computer, Intel, Quanta Computer, Supermicro, Cisco Systems, Arista, LSI, Qlogic, Emulex, Symantec, CommVault, VMware and Citrix to deliver enterprise-class storage solutions for more than 4,000 commercial deployments.
Nexenta’s Partner Program previously was honored in February 2012 when Jon Ash, vice president of sales, was named one of CRN’s 2012 Channel Chiefs. Today’s news comes shortly after Nexenta announced it will be supporting Intel’s newly announced Intel® Xeon® E5 Server Platform, and that its ecosystem of partners can deliver value on this transformative platform for storage systems beginning immediately.
Said Nexenta Vice President of Sales Jon Ash: “We are thrilled by CRN’s ringing endorsement of Nexenta’s extensive and robust partner program. We would also like to thank our partners for our success to date for their work to help us build an award-winning partner program. Together with my recognition as a CRN 2012 Channel Chief, Nexenta’s 5-Star Rating is further validation that our work with partners to deliver NexentaStor plus partner hardware solutions is enabling partners to beat the legacy storage systems while building a high-margin, high-value storage business for themselves. At Nexenta we believe partner is a verb – every single employee and contractor signs a pledge to be partner- and customer- focused. Together with our partners, we are transforming the storage industry, which comprises some 30-40 percent or more of total enterprise IT spending. I am personally committed to helping our partners continue to grow at the 400 percent and greater pace we have seen in the last two years.”
In building the list, UBM Channel Research developed a methodology in which the objective criteria takes into account each vendor’s investments in program offerings, partner profitability, partner training, education and support, marketing programs and resources, sales support and communication.
“The companies listed in CRN’s 2012 Partner Program Guide represent a comprehensive list of the best channel programs in the market today,” said Kelley Damore, vice president and editorial director for UBM Channel’s CRN. “The 5-Star Rating is reserved for vendors that understand that a successful partnership does not rely solely on the technology. By offering their partners tools, education and regular updates, vendors on this list go above and beyond traditional support to ensure a mutually beneficial partnership.”
The 2012 Partner Program Guide and 5-Star Partners listing will be featured on CRN.com and in the March 2012 issue of CRN.

45 channel partners in 25 countries support company growth of 410 percent in 2011 in Europe
LONDON, UK. – 20 February 2012 – Nexenta Systems, the world’s leading provider of OpenStorage solutions, today announced unprecedented European growth in 2011. With the company’s channel focus on high quality reseller partners, Nexenta revenue in Europe is almost a third of all global sales.
This comes as a result of growing demand for the company’s award-winning OpenStorage software platform across the region. Storage resellers, such as Proact in Netherlands, Thomas Krenn in Germany and VA Technologies in the UK are responding to the strong customer demand for a better-priced alternative to legacy proprietary solutions from companies such as NetApp and EMC.
Jacco van Achterberg, sales director EMEA, was recruited at the beginning of 2011, and has been responsible for the development of Nexenta’s partner channel across Europe. He explained: “Nexenta’s unique software-only storage approach allows our partners to add value to NexentaStor in terms of hardware, services and support. 2012 is already looking very positive with 350% revenue growth planned in Europe.”
Nexenta addresses a critical need for businesses and cloud service providers struggling to balance growing data volume with legacy business model lock-in and aging technologies. The company’s open business model and proven track record with large, enterprise-class customers including Shazam, VESK, Coltex, Synergics and Trinkwasserversorgung Magdeburg prove its product is the best fitted storage solution for cloud deployments, virtualised data centres, and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments.
Commenting on the company’s record growth, Evan Powell, CEO at Nexenta, said: “2011 was a pivotal year for the company and it follows three years of growth exceeding 400% year-over-year. Nexenta has been committed to putting in place the right management team and we have tripled the headcount from 60 to 180 to support the increasing demand and to provide high levels of service and support to our growing customer base.”

Nexenta’s Jon Ash Named a 2012 Channel Chief by Everything Channel’s CRN
Nexenta's Jon Ash Named a 2012 Channel Chief by Everything Channel's CRN
Santa Clara, CA — February 20, 2012 — Nexenta Systems, the world leader in OpenStorage solutions, today announced that its Vice President of Sales Jon Ash has been named one of Everything Channel’s CRN Channel Chiefs. This prestigious list of the most influential and powerful leaders in the IT channel recognizes those executives directly responsible for promoting and executing effective channel partner programs and strategies, while consistently evangelizing and defending the importance of the channel throughout the entire IT industry.
Since Jon Ash joined Nexenta in 2009, the OpenStorage leader has seen a tremendous growth in its sales, partner and customer programs – becoming the fastest growing company in enterprise storage with more than 4,000 active customers. 2011 particularly was a banner year for Nexenta, as the company celebrated a 400 percent growth in year-over-year sales, a tripling of its workforce and a $21 million Series C investment led by Menlo Ventures, in which Sierra Ventures and Razor’s Edge Ventures also participated.
“This is a great honor for me and for my outstanding coworkers at Nexenta,” said Jon Ash, vice president of sales at Nexenta. “This recognition highlights the overwhelming success of Nexenta’s channel program, which has well over 200 partners. It also validates Nexenta’s game-changing model that offers superior performance at lower cost – in some cases by 75 to 80 percent – over the outdated lock-in models of our legacy vendor competition.”
For the ninth consecutive year, Channel Chiefs were selected by the CRN editorial team based on channel experience, program innovations, channel-driven revenue and public support for the importance of IT channel sales.
“The 2012 Channel Chiefs list recognizes vendor executives dedicated to driving channel programs in the IT marketplace,” said UBM Channel Editorial Director and Vice President Kelley Damore. “These are the people, the products and the programs that any savvy solution provider needs to know. We congratulate this year’s Channel Chiefs for their stellar record of business innovation and applaud them for their continued dedication to the partner community.”
The 2012 Channel Chiefs list is featured in the February issue of CRN Magazine and will be featured online at www.crn.com.
